Paolo Maldini on the front page of "L'Équipe" celebrating 70 years of the European Cup: the same Maldini who was sacked at Milan by Cardinale Gerry and Furlani Giorgio
It’s a bit like if the director of UPIM were to show Giorgio Armani the door, deeming him incompetent. If the fans truly cared about Milan, San Siro should remain deserted for an entire year
On April 4, 1955, seventy years ago, the European Cup was born in Paris. Today, "L'Équipe" celebrates the anniversary of the event with this wonderful front page, and guess which Italian footballer is featured among the nine all-time greats portrayed? Paolo Maldini. A man who won 5 European Cups/Champions Leagues, playing in 8 finals, and who, as a director, managed to lead Milan to an incredible Scudetto with a team of misfits after years of disastrous inherited management—only to find himself sacked a year later by the likes of Cardinale Gerry and Furlani Giorgio. If Milan fans truly wanted the best for their team and their club, San Siro should remain empty until the day Paolo Maldini returns to where he deserves to be. Today’s Milan is a disgrace. (Thanks to Alessandro Da Prato for pointing this out).
